MSPRU Website Design and Branding

Manchester Secondary Pupil Referral Unit (MSPRU) work “one to one” or in small groups to address pupils individual needs across 16 centres based in Manchester. MSPRU approached the team at Urbansoul Design to reinvent their brand identity and boost their web presence.

Collaborating closely with the staff at the MSPRU we designed and developed a modern, feature rich responsive website that includes information that easily accessible for both students who have been referred to a PRU or a parent whose child has been referred to a PRU. Making the path to accessing this information was an important part of the website design process. As being referred, or having a child referred to a PRU may be daunting so we wanted the users to feel at ease. This ease is reinforced by the new brand colour scheme used on the site both blue and mint green are colours that establish trust and create a feeling of calm, trust and safety for the user.

The site features an interactive map that has all 16 centres plotted on it and a custom navigation so that users can browse and switch between the PRU centres around Manchester. Through the map, directions to each centre can be accessed on site, meaning that users can get this information quickly and with ease. The site also has a custom-built events slider.

The result of the website build is an informative and highly accessible website that keeps a consistent modern and responsive design and fast page load speed across all ranges of devices.

The existing MSPRU brand was looking a little neglected and needed a refresh as part of the new website design. They wanted to retain their established identity which used the ‘B of the Bang’ symbol, while giving it a much needed facelift. We considered all aspects of the brand identity including a complementary colour scheme, modern typefaces and a more stylised approach to the ‘B of the Bang’.
